The Wollongong City Council provides historical and environmental information on all the suburbs in the Wollongong Council area, many of which date back to colonial times.

Illawarra Historical Society and Illawarra Museum
A comprehensive source of information about the history of the Illawarra from colonial times to the present. Includes information about school tours of the museum.

Illawarra Museum Archived Blogsite
This is an old site that is no longer updated but contains many great historical articles on the Illawarra.

Helensburgh And District Historical Society
Provides a historical narrative of the Helensburgh and surrounding area from settlement during the 1800s. Includes images, maps, articles and other links.

The Illawarra Mercury
Read about the history of the region's newspaper which was founded in 1855, making it the second oldest newspaper in the country.

Bulli Black Diamond Museum & Heritage Centre
The Bulli Black Diamond Museum & Heritage Centre is located at the eastern platform of Bulli Railway Station. The Centre houses a collection of railway and local coal mining artefacts, as well as exhibitions of social history. Their website contains historical information about the area dating back to the 1800s, including about the coal mining industry and rail transportation.

Michael Organ - Local Historian
Michael Organ's website provides several links to information pages about the history of the Illawarra, especially during the initial period of white settlement from 1770 to 1850.
